Press release • November 2024
In 2025 ARoS will build on its innovative history of merging art and architecture. We expand the museum to include two interconnected purpose-built spaces: a new subterranean gallery dedicated to annual commissions; and the highly anticipated The Dome, a Skyspace by James Turrell.
In 2025, ARoS will present some of the world’s leading artists and emerging voices. This includes solo exhibitions by leading international figures such as Barbara Kruger and Anna Boghiguian; a major new acquisition of the work by Isaac Julien; the first institutional exhibitions in the Nordic region dedicated to contemporary artists Igshaan Adams, Alexander Tovborg and Jenkin van Zyl; a major group exhibition of works by modernist painters including Picasso, Miró and Léger; and the opening of a new permanent installation by James Turrell.
Rebecca Matthews, Director of ARoS, says:
“2025 will be a pivotal moment in ARoS’ 166-year history. The museum is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation to emerge as one of the most innovative institutions in which to engage with transformative art experiences at scale.”
“This year will be all about embracing and welcoming. In a world that seems more divided, less tolerant, we open ARoS’ new spaces with two very different artists – James Turrell and Jenkin van Zyl – who invite us into their special worlds with their extraordinary approaches to art-making.”
