Goodbye to A Girl: ARoS' collection exhibition will be updated with new artworks

It is almost your last chance to experience or revisit Ron Mueck's sculptures A Girl and Woman with Shopping, which will be replaced by works from the ARoS collection after January 5.

January 5, 2025 is the last chance to experience or say goodbye to Ron Mueck's sculptures A Girl (2006), a 5-meter long, highly detailed sculpture of a newborn baby and Woman with Shopping (2013), a sculpture of a woman slightly smaller than life-size interpreting the timeless motif of a mother and child. They will then return home to the National Galleries of Scotland and the ISelf Collection.

Since February, Ron Mueck's iconic sculpture Boy has been accompanied by the two captivating sculptures in the anniversary exhibition Ron Mueck - Art and Life at ARoS' Level 6. The exhibition marks Boy's 20th anniversary at ARoS and is dedicated to the sculptor Ron Mueck's work and his interpretation of our physical and psychological development from child to adult.

A Girl has attracted nearly 440,000 visitors during its exhibition period at ARoS.

"It has been truly inspiring to see how the exhibition has evoked emotions and sparked interest across multiple generations, both among new and returning visitors. Ron Mueck is considered one of the most talented sculptors of our time, and the exhibition resonates with both children and adults. We are delighted, and proud, to be able to present art that creates reflections across generations," says Rebecca Matthews, Museum Director at ARoS.

New exhibition with works from the ARoS collection
Boy will stay in the gallery on Level 6, where he will be joined by a number of carefully selected contemporary works from the ARoS collection. Works by Danish artists Nina Beier, Simon Dybbroe Møller, Sidsel Meiniche Hansen and Tove Storch will be presented alongside the work For Aros by the renowned American artist Jenny Holzer and one of the most recent works in the ARoS collection by Shiyuan Liu.

The new hanging will be part of the exhibition ARoS Samling: 1960 – nu, which takes you on a journey through art history from the 1960s to the present through works from ARoS’ collection.

"Some of the works have never been shown before. Part of our vision is to activate larger parts of the ARoS art collection so that our guests can continue to experience the museum anew and discover new works in our exhibitions. The exhibition featuresremarkablecontemporary art across artistic disciplines,” says Rebecca Matthews.
