Press release • May 2024
The Danish Royal House has just announced in a press release that H. M. Queen Margrethe will resume her patronage of ARoS.
Queen Margrethe has served as patron of selected exhibitions at Aarhus Art Museum since 1990, and in 2003 just before ARoS opened in our new museum building at Aros Allé Her Majesty became patron of the entire museum.
As a consequence of the change of throne on 14 January 2024 all of Queen Margrethe's patronages ceased, but now the patronage of ARoS is resumed.
“We are delighted that Queen Margrethe will continue her patronage. Denmark and ARoS are incredibly privileged to have a Queen whose heart beats for art and whose passion and commitment encourages an entire population to use art for reflection and creative expression,” says Museum Director Rebecca Matthews.
According to the Danish Royal House, the patronage is valid until the end of May 2029, after which a decision will be made on a possible prolongation.
“It's always a great pleasure when Queen Margrethe or other members of the royal family visit ARoS, we’re looking forward to welcoming our patron – hopefully before too long,” says Rebecca Matthews.
