Join us in marking the International Women's Day on Saturday 8 March 2025, when ARoS and NorthSide unite the renowned American artist Barbara Kruger and her current exhibition No Comment with two prominent Danish artists - singer Soleima and author Cecilie Lind.

On Saturday 8 March from 6-9 PM, ARoS opens its doors to a special event, created in collaboration with NorthSide, which takes place in the middle of Barbara Kruger's all-encompassing vinyl work of bombastic statements currently filling the atrium on ARoS' Level 1.

The evening includes a reading by acclaimed author Cecilie Lind, an artist talk with Soleima where she will talk about her work as a female artist, and finally an acoustic concert with Soleima.

“Diversity and inclusion are key elements of ARoS‘ vision, and I am delighted that this year we can use 8 March to highlight three influential women: Barbara Kruger, one of the art world's strongest female voices over four decades, and two prominent Danish voices in the form of Soleima and Cecilie Lind,” says Museum Director Rebecca Matthews.

No Comment, Barbara Kruger's first solo exhibition in Scandinavia and on view at ARoS' Level 1 until 21 April 2025, explores power structures, gender, identity, and digital media.

The exhibition forms a powerful backdrop for the exciting dialogue between Soleima's musical universe and Cecilie Lind's poetic narratives. The event at ARoS will be a unique encounter between three strong female voices that challenge and move the audience across media, perspectives and generations.

“Soleima emerged from the thriving Aarhus scene and is today an indispensable voice in Danish music. She has a fantastic way of describing life and her surroundings, whether it's about the small everyday situations that make up the majority of our lives, or reflections on living in a time when switching on the news can make your stomach hurt. These are themes that resonate with Barbara Kruger's art, and Soleima is an important musical contribution that we at NorthSide are happy to present,” says NorthSide booker Nikoline Skaarup.

About Barbara Kruger and No Comment
Barbara Kruger (b. 1945) is one of the most influential artists of our time. For over 40 years, her observations of consumer society have reflected and anticipated public debate on issues such as gender equality and abortion rights.

Kruger's work is characterised by oversized typefaces and commercial and industrial formats. She borrows from mass media motifs, combines them with short statements and utilises the seductive power of words and images to question social relations and power structures.

All vinyl works in No Comment are tailored to the architecture of ARoS. The largest work is over 30 metres high and can be experienced on the entrance wall from ARoS Level 1 to Level 8.

As part of the exhibition, Barbara Kruger has dressed two of Aarhus Light Rail's trains in her works, allowing Aarhus residents to experience No Comment and Barbara Kruger's direct messages not only at ARoS, but also in the cityscape and as part of their everyday lives.

The exhibition also includes audio works - both in the gallery and in surprising places such as ARoS' guest toilets and in ARoS Butik.
