With a bold exhibition program and historic milestones such as the opening of The Dome, a Skyspace by James Turrell and a new subterranean gallery in 2025, ARoS has found the perfect match in Stinna Toft as the museum’s new Chief Curator. She brings a unique combination of artistic vision and strategic leadership from her previous roles at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, and HEART. She will play a vital role in strengthening the museum’s position both nationally and internationally.
"We are delighted to welcome Stinna Toft as our new Chief Curator. Stinna has strong museum expertise and a deep understanding of ARoS’ artistic DNA, including the museum’s collection. This makes her the ideal leader of our ambitious exhibition program, which in 2025 will offer art experiences with a focus on innovation, diversity, and audience engagement. We are confident that Stinna is the right person to take on this important role," says Museum Director Rebecca Matthews.
Engaging and innovative artistic experiences
Stinna Toft has previously served as Head of Exhibitions and Communication at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen, Head of Art at Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg, and Chief Curator at HEART in Herning. She also has extensive experience with both Danish and international collaborations. Additionally, Stinna Toft has completed a high-level formal leadership education with very good results, equipping her with the necessary artistic and managerial competencies in both theory and practice.
"I am excited to take on the role of Chief Curator at ARoS. This visionary museum holds a unique position both in Denmark and internationally, and I look forward to collaborating with the talented team to create art experiences that engage and inspire audiences," says Stinna Toft.
As Chief Curator, Stinna Toft will lead the artistic development of ARoS, focusing on both the museum’s collection and new exhibitions. Her appointment is part of ARoS’ long-term strategy, Vision 2033, which aims to further strengthen the museum’s artistic profile and visitor experience. Her expertise in interdisciplinary art forms aligns with ARoS’ ambition to create engaging and innovative art experiences. Rebecca Matthews adds:
"Stinna has a broad and profound understanding of the many forms of artistic expression, including installation art, video art, and performance art. Her ability to combine innovation, artistic depth, and audience engagement makes her the ideal leader for our ambitious exhibition program. We are confident that she is the perfect choice to elevate ARoS to new heights both nationally and internationally," says the Museum Director.
Stinna Toft will assume the position of Chief Curator at ARoS on March 1, 2025.
